The Xpress Team
Originally comprising of its two co-founders, Nick Crump and Mark Laybourne, Xpress has not only seen considerable growth within its customer base, but also within its core team. Today Xpress can boast a team consisting of seventeen employees, many of whom are AEA qualified and have extensive knowledge and experience within the electoral industry.
Here are some details on each of the Xpress Team.

Nick Crump - Director
Nick is a co-founder of Xpress Software Solutions Ltd. Prior to forming Xpress with Mark, he worked for a number of local authorities including Stroud District Council. It was at Stroud that Nick was presented with the challenge of developing an electoral registration and elections management system for the electoral services team. It is here that the Xpress system was born which he and Mark would later acquire.
Mark Laybourne - Director
Mark co-founder of Xpress Software Solutions Ltd. Mark worked in both the public and private sector for a number of years before re-joining Stroud District Council in 1999. It was here that Mark, having met Nick, was assigned to the Xpress software development project. He and Nick would later acquire the system.
Jamie Doig - Business Development and Sales Manager
Jamie originally joined the electoral services team within the London Borough of Croydon in 1997 before moving to the electoral software supplier, Pickwick, in 2003. During his time with Pickwick, Jamie undertook the roles of Business Consultant and Product Manager. Jamie took up his current role when he moved to Xpress in the summer of 2008.
Jason Cozza - Development and IT Manager
Having led IT teams at both the Mid & South Bedfordshire District Councils, Jason moved to the elections software supplier, Pickwick, in 1998. From here he spent a significant period of this time as Development Manager before moving to Xpress in the spring of 2008.
Ann Sharman - Technical Author and Deputy Support Manager
Having owned and run her own design business, Ann moved into local government in 1990 taking up a position at West Lancs District Council. She joined Stroud District Council in 1997, moving in August 2000 to the Electoral Services section and gaining the AEA Certificate in February 2002. Ann joined Xpress in April 2006 and her main role now is to maintain the Online documentation and assist the running of the Support team.
Anne Sheppard - Electoral Consultant
In addition to her support role, Anne works in partnership with Sarah Dalby to deliver training for the entire Xpress suite of applications. Prior to joining Xpress at the beginning of 2007, Anne was the team leader of electoral services at Tewkesbury Borough Council. She passed the AEA Certificate in the summer of 2010.
Stuart Hayden - Electoral Consultant
Stuart joined the electoral team at Leicester City Council in 1998 and gained a wealth of knowledge in electoral matters. During his time at Leicester he gained his AEA Certificate. Stuart moved from Leicester to join the Xpress team at the end of 2008. In July 2011, he successfully completed the BCS - Foundation Certificate in Software Testing.
Sarah Dalby - Electoral Consultant
As well as her support role, Sarah works in partnership with Anne Sheppard to prepare and deliver the Xpress training. Sarah initially joined Stroud District Council as an Electoral Assistant in 1987 before moving to the Cotswold District Council electoral team in 1991. In 2005, whilst at Cotswold she moved her supplier onto the Xpress system and subsequently joined the Xpress team at the beginning of 2008.
Sarah Wilson - Electoral Consultant
Having previously worked within the private sector, at the beginning of 2007 Sarah started work within the elections team at Swindon Borough Council. At the end of 2008, she joined Xpress and has completed the AEA Foundation Course and gained her AEA Certificate with distinction.
Talon Patience - Trainee Support Analyst
Talon joined Xpress in 2009. Having previously worked with both Microsoft and Google, he has a strong background in the IT and software environment, as well as extensive customer services experience. He has an active interest in politics and is fast learning the intricacies of the electoral world.
Louisa Burke - Software Developer
Louisa has an extensive background in software development and has worked for numerous companies within the private sector. After undertaking employment in locations ranging from Brighton to Paris, she finally moved back to the South West where she joined the Xpress team at the beginning of 2007.
James Gardiner - Developer
Being a full time University student, James took up a placement position within the Xpress team during the summer of 2008. Under the tutelage of his more senior Xpress development colleagues, he has undertaken a number of projects within the Xpress team ranging from Web design to the European Results package. He graduated in 2010 with 1st class honours in Information Technology and is now involved in much of the web development across the group.
Ross Miller - Software Developer
Ross has a long background in software development and having finished a role as network administrator, Ross joined the Xpress team in 2007.
Sarah Edwards - Software Developer
Sarah has worked for numerous software companies within the private sector but recently developed a strong desire to move away from corporate world of IT and the aspects associated with large financial service organisations. Eventually after much searching, Sarah realised her ambitions when she joined the Xpress team in the summer of 2008.
Simon Foulkes - Software Developer
Having worked for various software development companies within the private sector, Simon joined the elections software supplier, Pickwick, in 2004. He gained a strong background in electoral software solutions and eventually took on a leading role within the development team. He joined the Xpress development team at the end of 2009.
Matt Hogg - Software Developer
Matt has a strong background in computer development and has worked for various companies within the private sector. Matt joined the Xpress team in the autumn of 2008.
Fran Rees - Office Manager
Fran joined the team in the summer of 2009 and is primarily charged with managing the Xpress accounts. In addition to this, Fran works closely with the senior members of the customer support, product development and business development teams to assist with various administrative tasks.
